Amy Nicholson's Great North Run for FMA UK

Amy Nicholson will run the SimplyHealth Great North Run on the 9th September for FMA UK this year because her mum and her partner live with fibromyalgia. Amy told us why she is doing it: ‘’I really don't know what I have let myself in for but after been a keen spectator for many years (with a beer in my hand) I have always found the atmosphere amazing! Firstly I am just doing it for a bit of a laugh as at the minute I couldn't run to the shop!
Secondly and on a more serious note, to it, it would be a pleasure to run on behalf of every single person that suffers from Fibromyalgia! Something that is very close to home for me! After watching my amazing Mama Bear Sue and beautiful partner Louise go through months/years suffering from an illness that went undiagnosed, being mistreated for conditions they didn't have until they finally got correctly diagnosed!
Even after the diagnosis, I still don't think they are getting the appropriate help they both need! Endless amounts of different medications that don't work! I think this is because so many people/professionals don't really understand the daily struggles of a person suffering from Fibromyalgia, not only physically but most of all mentally!
I am far from an expert and learn more and more about Fibromyalgia everyday, this is the reason for my fundraising as I would love to help raise awareness! Any money raised will be donated to Fibromyalgia Action UK!

Our professionally printed Information pack on fibromyalgia can be found here to view. You will also receive a free copy on request. We also have a booklet for young people with fibromyalgia that you can obtain on request and will be on the website soon.

The charity is run by volunteers, most of whom have fibromyalgia.
If your Health Care Professional needs some education in fibromyalgia you can request that an FMA UK Health Professionals Pack is sent out to them. All we need is the name of the Health CareProfessional and the address of their practice. We will then send a pack to their surgery addressed from us to them.
You can request a medical pack using this form.
You can find a Support Group near you by contacting the Regional Coordinator for your area. If there does not happen to be a support group near you then maybe you can join with some other members and set one up. Support groups provide a social benefit as well as the opportunity to share tips on coping with fibro. They come in all shapes and sizes and we are often told how they have helped people.
