I met my fiancée Katy Butler a couple of years ago, she had been struggling with aches and pains since she was a child and doctors just always put it down to 'growing pains'. After a short while my mother and I started looking on the internet to see if we could find a reason for Katy's aches and pains, and that's when we found out about fibromyalgia.
Katy started seeing a new doctor (who knew a little more about FM than most doctors) and after a few more visits the doctor diagnosed fibromyalgia. Just being diagnosed alone was such a relief for us, to finally know what had caused all these pains for so long. Katy also has a 4 year old daughter called Maddy from a previous relationship who has started waking up in the night crying in pain with her legs.
Katy is now pregnant and our baby girl Olivia is due on 3rd October 2011. I am going to be doing the BUPA Great Yorkshire run in Sheffield on 9th October 2011 to raise money and awareness of FM, so hopefully I will have a beautiful baby girl to inspire me even more during the run. It's a 10km (6.25 mile) race and I did it last year and it took me 1 hour and 12 minutes which I was disappointed with. This year I aim to do it in 1 hour or less and want to raise as much money for FMA UK as possible, although the main aim of this run for me is to raise awareness of FM. There are a small percentage of people who know what it actually is and if I can change that by doing this run then I will have achieved my main goal.
